Recalls for the week:

  • 2015-18 Porsche Macan Recalled for Airbag Issue - Dealers will replace the sensor mat and seat cushion for free.
  • 4,700 Hyundai Ioniq, Kona EVs Recalled for Battery Fire Issue - Hyundai will notify owners beginning April 30. It does not yet have parts available for replacing the battery, so if you own one of the potentially affected Ioniq or Kona EVs, the automaker is advising you to park outside and away from structures until the interim repair is complete. That interim repair is to follow instructions to perform a battery update through the vehicle’s infotainment system or request a Hyundai dealer to provide the update. Once parts are available, dealers will replace the battery system assembly. All repairs will be performed for free.
  • Kia Recalls 380K More Cars for Fire Risk- Until the repair is complete, owners are advised to park outside and away from structures as a precaution. To fix the issue, dealers will replace certain fuses in the electrical junction box. Vehicles equipped with an electronic parking brake will also receive a control unit software update. All repairs will be done for free, and the recall will begin April 30.
  • 807K Nissan Sentras Recalled for Brake light Failure Issue - Dealers will replace the brake light switch and install a protective grommet for free.

You can find out if your car has a past recall by going to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls  and inputting your VIN number. Or find their SaferCar app.

In addition to changing the batteries or testing your smoke detector, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is reminding car owners that the time change this weekend can double as a time check — specifically, a check for open recalls that may affect your safety.

A recent study looked at driving fatalities between 2017 and 2021 to reveal the most dangerous ages for drivers in every state. New data has revealed that young drivers aged 19 and under are the most at-risk drivers in America, as they report the highest rate of fatal road accidents.  The research analyzed car crashes reported between 2017 and 2021 to identify the age of each fatality and reveal the most at-risk. As well as this, the study examined the states that see the highest fatality rates per age group. Mississippi has been named the second most dangerous state for young drivers aged 19 and under, with 220 deaths per 100k licensed drivers. Shockingly, this is a 133% increase than the national average, which was revealed to be 97 fatalities per 100k drivers. Although it was drivers 19 and under who were most at risk in Mississippi, data also revealed that the second-deadliest age range for drivers is 20-29. In total, there are over 500 deaths per 100K for drivers under the age of 30 in Mississippi. Auto Casey: 2024 Toyota Crown | Short Take
